Editing of OCR G322 Dr Who (Gender)
Editing of Dr Who (June 2009) clip - Representation of Gender
First of all, a point of view shot has been used in this extract. The cinematographer puts the camera in the same place as Freema Agyeman (known as Martha Jones in the Dr Who series). This is to get the audience look at what Martha Jones is looking at which in this case, she is looking at her family who got arrested by the antagonist. The representation of gender is used through Martha Jones who is approaching the antagonist confidently. Stereotypically, the women has to be scared and worried about their family but in this extract, it is juxtaposition. Martha Jones looks confident and brave enough to defeat the antagonist who has the control of her family.
Furthermore, when the antagonist starts to command Martha Jones, the pace of the action scene is increasing. This is to symbolize that an action is going to begin and also, get the audiences to stay focused on what's going to happen next. The representation of gender is used through the antagonist commanding Martha Jones to sit on her knee. This signifies that men are represented as dominant and the leader whereas, the women are represented as weak and supportive. Linking back to the extract, Martha Jones is being supportive by listening to the antagonist's commands in order to rescue her family from danger.
In addition, editing is used in this extract to make the audiences be interested to watch more. During the extract, flashbacks have been used to interject the scene that takes the audiences back in time from the current point in the extract. In the flashback, Martha Jones meets an innocent woman who helped her get to where The Doctor and her family are. She also mentioned about the gun that the antagonist wants. The representation of gender is used through Martha Jones where she is being brave enough to tell the whole story when she was with the woman who brought her to where her family and the Doctor are. Stereotypically, the women won't be brave in front of the men however, inn this extract, it is juxtaposition which means that the opposite is happening. This is used to make the audiences think that the women and the men are equal in each and every way.
Throughout the extract, cut has been used constantly to let the audiences know what is going to be happening each second. At the start of the extract, the duration of the cuts are long however, when the dialogue and the action begins, the duration and the pace of the cuts increases which symbolizes that this moment, the audiences should not be missing it as it is the key scene within the extract. The representation of gender is used to show how the women and the men are in an action film than in reality. The audiences constantly see cuts between Martha Jones and the antagonist as they are both the key characters in the extract.

My two production companies I will be talking about are Nickelodeon Movies and BBC Films. First of all, Nickelodeon produced the film American film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Furthermore, BBC Films produced the British film Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie. Also, I will be comparing the production, distribution such as marketing, synergy and media convergence and the exhibition of a low budget British film with the high budget America film.
